Festival Sefardí 2026: A Tapestry of New Mexico Identity
New Mexico’s only annual celebration of the unique history and culture of the Sephardic Jews in the Southwest enters its 17th year with a focus on the complex identities that make up New Mexico’s rich cultural tapestry. The festival runs from May 21-24, featuring music, liturgical services, poetry, art, performances, workshops, and lectures by scholars exploring intersections of Jewish, Indigenous, and Hispano realities.
Saturday's events begin with La Rosa Enflorece Torah Ceremony with Rabbi Lynn Gottlieb, Rinat Abastado, and The Sephardic Borderlands Ensemble followed by
a catered luncheon from Indian Pueblo Kitchen and a talk by Enrique Lamadrid titled: The Casta System and its Implications for Today. The day closes with Río, Ritual, Poesía, Identidad: A sacred meeting of the ancestral voice of Indigenous Poetry and its resonance in the Sefardic Community, united by the Spanish language and the movement of life, with Sandra Marroquín-Evans and Sarah Hogland–Gurulé.
