Superintendent Durán Blakey and local education leaders to highlight progress and outline future goals.
Albuquerque Public Schools is set to showcase its vision for the future as it hosts the 2026 State of the District event on Monday, Aug. 31, at the Berna Facio Professional Development Complex, 3315 Louisiana Blvd. NE.
Doors open early with live student entertainment at 3:30 p.m., followed by the main program from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Held after school hours to encourage greater participation from teachers, staff and families, the third annual event will celebrate key milestones while laying out strategic priorities for the year ahead. The event is hosted by the APS Board of Education.
Superintendent Dr. Gabriella Durán Blakey will deliver the keynote address, focusing on academic performance, innovative educational initiatives, and the district's long-term roadmap.
The program also features opening remarks from Board of Education President Ronalda Tome-Warito and a special presentation by a recent APS graduate reflecting on the student journey.
Following the keynote, Marisa Magallanez, president and CEO of the Albuquerque Community Foundation, will moderate a dynamic panel on the future of education. Panelists include Dr. Durán Blakey, Central New Mexico Community College President Tracy Hartzler, and Dr. Kristopher Goodrich, dean of the UNM College of Education and Human Sciences.
Designed as an open progress report to the community, the State of the District emphasizes regional collaboration across public and higher education. For community members unable to attend in person, the entire event will be livestreamed on the Board of Education’s YouTube channel.External link
